KPN, the Dutch telco, is the latest big name telco to partner with a satellite player. It is forming a strategic roaming partnership with OQ Technology, a 5G non-terrestrial network (NTN) satellite operator. The collaboration will enable KPN customers to connect to OQ’s satellite network for 5G IoT coverage across land and sea. The two companies announced the deal, Sept. 29.
OQ Technology operates Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites aiming to deliver high-performance connectivity even in challenging regions such as the polar areas and remote oceanic routes beyond 70 degrees latitude, as well as in environments where access to the equatorial sky is obstructed.
This will support connectivity for KPN’s customers for uninterrupted IoT data flows beyond terrestrial borders, which the companies said will improve operational efficiency, safety, and environmental resilience.

It’s a game-changer for industries such as maritime, logistics, energy, and agriculture,” Jeffrey Rosink, Commercial Roaming Manager, KPN, said in a statement.
